Enköping, Sweden, 14 October 2022

As part of our development within ICT, APR Technologies have recently become a consortium member of an EU-funded collaborative defense R&D project called 5G COMPAD. The project aims to demonstrate the relevance of 5G mobile communications technology to sustained information superiority.

The project “5G Communications for Peacekeeping And Defense” (5G COMPAD) is an international initiative coordinated by Swedish Saab, and involves 19 members from 11 European countries. APR Technologies and other market leaders such as NOKIA and Ericsson are included among the member companies.

APR will contribute our expertise in thermal management of advanced and robust electronics. The goal is to integrate APR’s cooling products in the final peacekeeping platform,” says thermal architect and head of FEM simulation Mikael Antelius at APR Technologies.

The 5G COMPAD project will entail designing, prototyping, and testing a reference architecture for a 5G-based robust and resilient multidimensional communications system to demonstrate the operational capabilities of 5G integrated in selected peacekeeping platforms and systems. The total budget is set at EUR 37,096,363.98.

The 5G COMPAD project will highlight that APR solutions have the potential to be integrated in every product of this type on the market,” says APR Technologies CTO Robert Thorslund.

In addition, the project will involve developing new and improved functionalities and reducing the product’s total lifecycle cost. As a result, 5G COMPAD will enable enhanced operational capabilities for military defense units and other similar entities.
